Neither is currently forecast to make landfall in the United States.
The National Hurricane Center reports that Hurricane Lee joins Tropical Depression Fourteen as a Category 5 in the Atlantic Ocean, while Jova is also a Category 5 storm, currently off the coast of Mexico in the eastern Pacific.
Hurricane Lee and TD14 are not a direct threat to the continental U.S. However, dangerous conditions from the storm may be experienced in the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, and Bermuda over the weekend. Meteorologists say the storm’s intensity could increase some tidal surges and high winds on parts of the East Coast.
Hurricane Jova poses no immediate threat to land as it tracks northwesterly. It will be strong enough to bring rip currents and high surf to the west coast of Mexico and potentially into the Southern California coast. At Category 5, Jova is the strongest storm in the Pacific so far this year.
